Day 1

Setup

Plan

Instructors will use the Alexa deck and introduce students to Alexa skills. Then, students will set up their Alexas (parents should have given them usernames and passwords if they wanted them to use their existing Amazon account). Students will also setup their AWS and Amazon Developer Console accounts (usernames and passwords should all be recorded on a sheet of paper). They will start to work on creating their first game skill using the Alex Skills Blueprints.

Students from the morning camp will continue to work on their skill that they started this morning.

Day 2

Setup

Plan

Students will finish up their Blueprint skill from yesterday and start working on making a game skill from scratch. They will start to plan their game skill using the Skill Planning Worksheet. After the class is logged into the developer console and AWS console, have them all start with copying the same code for the Lambda function and the same intents and utterances for the skill itself. Both are found in the slides/deck. The first goal is to get everyone to the point of a working skill (i.e. no errors when testing). From here, students can customize the skill and Lambda function to make it their own. Lastly, the class can work indivudally or in teams to create a separate skill, or continue with the template.
